The performance, although condensed, will use Shakespeare's original language and text. The children will quickly become involved in the magic of the world and, to help them get started, the performance begins with an interactive prologue introducing them to the characters and alerting them to milestones in the story. The play will be brought vividly to life with music, physical humour, visual delight and even an opportunity for the whole audience to get involved. It will last two hours including the interactive prologue and interval.
Workshops
To give your class the best possible enjoyment and understanding of the production, we are delighted to offer workshops, devised by Sarah Gordon, tailored to complement your literacy and creative arts curriculum. The workshops, in association with the Young Shakespeare Company, are the perfect preparation for your theatre visit, enthusing the children in advance about the story and characters and giving them an appetite to hear Shakespeare's language in performance.
Workshops are delivered in your school by an experienced actor teacher who runs a two hour drama and storytelling session with each of the classes that are taking part. The session explores the story, language and the characters of A Midsummer Night's Dream and works especially well when the children have no prior knowledge of the play.
The children become actively and imaginatively involved in A Midsummer Night's Dream, playing the characters and creating the imaginary world of the play through storytelling, prediction, improvisation, mime and exploration of Shakespeare's language.
Workshops take place between 9 June and 11 July and require a hall space.
A teacher from the school must be present at all times as the person responsible for the children.
See the performance schedule for dates and times.
